Neighbourhood problems

What you can do if you have problems with your neighbour’s noise, trees or animals. Negotiate costs when planning structures on the boundary of your property.

  • Noisy neighbours

    Try asking your neighbours to be quiet if they're making too much noise. You can also complain to their landlord or the council.

  • Pruning tree branches

    You can trim most branches or roots that cross into your property up to the property boundary.

  • Fences, driveways and drains

    Neighbours should share the costs for fences and shared driveways. You may share the costs for some drains.

  • Dog problems and complaints

    If you're having problems with a dog, you can speak to the dog's owner. Otherwise you can speak to your local council.
