If you're worried a child is being abused, please report your suspicions so authorities can investigate.
Child abuse includes:
- emotional abuse
- physical harm, including excessive discipline
- neglect — not providing for a child’s basic needs
- sexual abuse of any kind.

If you suspect a child is being abused
It’s important that you notify your local Police station or Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children of your suspicions as soon as possible.
People who report suspected abuse are protected by the law. Police and Oranga Tamariki would rather know about your suspicions so they can investigate, even if you’re worried you might be wrong.
