If you or someone you care about is the victim of a crime, there's support and help available.

Support for victims

Victim Support provides the following services:

  • emotional and practical support
  • information
  • financial assistance
  • referral to other support services
  • advocacy for victims rights.

The Victims Code

The Victims Code sets out how you can expect to be treated when you are a victim of crime. The code includes:

  • standards of service you can expect from government agencies
  • your rights in the criminal justice system and the youth justice system
  • how you can make a complaint if you believe your rights are not being met.

You may be able to get financial assistance to help you cover some of the costs related to the crime.

Police support

If you are the victim of serious crime you will have a police officer assigned to your case. This person will be able to keep you up-to-date with what is happening right through the investigation.
