Renew or replace a child passport

Renewing a child's passport costs $125. Child passports are valid for 5 years. Once a child turns 16 their passport is valid until it expires or is cancelled. After that, they must renew their passport as an adult.

They must renew their passport as an adult.

To renew a child passport online, you must have a:

  • child’s passport already, even if it’s expired, lost, stolen or damaged
  • RealMe login — if you do not have one you can create one during the online application
  • identity referee
  • passport photo
  • credit, debit or Prezzy® card.

If you need to travel in a hurry you can apply for an urgent passport. It costs $340 and is processed within 3 working days.

The fastest way to apply for a passport is online – no paper, postage or visits to the office needed. Paper applications can take longer as they need extra processing.
