Benefits Review Committee
The Benefits Review Committee can review decisions made by the Ministry of Social Development, including Work and Income. A Review of Decision goes through an internal review before being seen by the Benefits Review Committee.
The committee has two representatives from the Ministry of Social Development and a community representative, and acts independently from the Ministry of Social Development.
The review checks that the decision was fair and made within relevant law and policy. You can apply for a Review of Decision within 3 months of a decision being made.
The Benefits Review Committee can review decisions about:
- entitlements to benefits, New Zealand Superannuation, supplementary assistance and social housing
- obligations to pay maintenance or superannuation, and
- recovery of social welfare debts.
