Stats NZ (Statistics New Zealand) collects data about New Zealand’s environment, economy and society.

The information helps government, local councils, Māori, businesses, communities, researchers and the public to measure, and make decisions about such things as:

• where we need roads, schools and hospitals
• environmental progress
• our quality of life
• how families are doing
• where to locate a business, and
• what products to sell.
